26 lbs and 8 3/4" LOST in 4 weeks

WOW !!!!! WOW !!!!! WOW !!!!!
This last week I've been kinda stuck at the same weight loss of 26 lbs since surgery (34 lbs overall). I fully expected a stall to happen as it seems pretty much everyone who has this type of surgery seems to have one around 4-6 weeks out from surgery, your body drops so much weight so quickly that it kinda puts itself on hold for a bit. I know that i will break the stall soon and continue to lose, so i just stick to my diet plan and i'll be fine :-)
Today though I did my measurements, i am going to try and take them at each month out as i go. And i couldn't believe that overall i've lost 8 3/4" !! WOW! In my waist alone i lost 2 1/2" and same with my hips 2 1/2". YEAH!

Overall i'm pleased with myself and now look forward to the coming months so much as i continue to lose both lbs and inches!

Eating is going okay. Obviously it's still a struggle to eat the right things, but so far so good. I am craving carbs, the one i want the most is white bread. But i avoid it like the plague because i know it will not only give me an upset stomach but it will also just make me actually crave the carbs, right now it's just my head playing games with me. If i give in and eat it though then I will really crave them, it's a vicious cycle.

I'm pretty consistently getting in 50-60 gms of protein each day. My goal is 90 but since i just cannot seem to tolerate the protein shakes it's a struggle to eat enough to equal that amount. I'm working on it though and plan to try mixing my shakes with soy milk to see if that makes a difference in tolerating them. I'm also doing pretty well getting in at least 60ish oz of water per day. I want to get more fluid in, but it's hard as i'm also trying to get protein in and my stomach is often feeling so full that i just struggle, but daily it's getting better so i see the light at the end of the tunnel on this one for sure.

First follow up with Dr.

Yesterday i had my first follow up with Dr. Hill. He was very pleased with my weight loss. Said my incision was healing extremely well. Very happy with how i'm doing overall. Yeah!

24 1/2 lbs lost since surgery!

Overall weight loss from high weight is 32 1/2 lbs!

I know you probably all think, well duh, you had weight loss surgery, why are you shocked. Well truth is like any other "diet" you don't really believe you will succeed. At least I don't. I set myself up for failure, might sound weird but i just don't "count on it" if you know what i mean. Yes I knew i'd lose, did i think it would be this much at first, nope no way! I know that this rate will not continue, and in fact at some point soon i expect to hit a plateau for anywhere from a week to a few weeks because that's just the experience of a lot of WLS (weight loss surgery) patients like me. But we shall see.

Still working on upping my water/fluid intake...

Slowly but surely I'm getting more in. I've been able to get some hot decaf tea in, which helps. As well as being able to take bigger sips of water at a time. Yesterday I was able to get about 55 oz of water in, i think that is my highest total so far for fluid. I'm eating about 4-5 small meals per day, each meal is about 1/2 cup of food. Trying still to find things that taste good, it's amazing how much this surgery changes the way things taste. I hope it gets better, cause i'm sick of it already.

20 1/2 lbs in 2 weeks

Wow, can't believe it, weighed in today at 350 1/2. WOW!

Still having a hard time eating, just can't get anything to really taste good and can't eat much yet, probably more than some at this stage but i feel like it's so little. I am struggling to get in more than 40ish oz of water a day too. Incision area is feeling good, healing very nicely. Can sleep on my sides now a little bit, not all night but for a bit, so that's good. Overall still feeling very tired, but trying to just rest and remember soon i'll have more energy.

Having a rough time eating wise

It's been a hard couple days, i'm still not really all that hungry but my head is still playing games with me. I *think* i'm hungry especially when i think of a favorite food or something i can't have. Or stupid tv commercials. I try my best not to be jealous of the food John and Faith eat for dinner but sometimes something as simple as a chicken patty looks so tasty.

On a side note i am currently fooling my body into thinking it's having a tuna melt by eating a small amount of tuna w/ cheese melted on it :-)

15 lbs lost in 10 days...

WOW, just WOW. I know this rate of loss will not keep up, however it's an amazing start!

Ride yesterday went great. Went to super Walmart and did a lot of walking around. I was a bit sore and pretty tired by the time we were done but it was good to get out :-)

Looking forward to thursday when i can advance my diet to include a lot more protein choices = MEAT, has to be a puree consistency but at least i can eat something else :-)

Getting a little stir crazy...

I havn't been anywhere since I came home Sunday except as far as the mailbox. So today I am going to try a short ride in the truck and see how i do. I am looking forward to some sunshine and fresh air.
Doing okay with my "eating", really discouraged by how nasty most everything tastes, but just getting it down slowly and surely.

Feeling hungry... 7 days post op

So it's been a week since surgery. And today is the first day i can honestly say i have felt hunger. I actually felt like i needed to "eat". Every other day i've just been "eating" cause i knew i needed too, today though I woke up and actually felt like i'd better have something. By no means do i feel ravenous or anything, but it's good to feel a normal feeling.

11 lbs seriously?

ummm wow!
I was feeling (actually am still feeling) crummy this morning. Overdid a bit yesterday and then didn't sleep well. So i decided to step on the scale just to see if maybe i lost a pound or two that would help boost my mood. Well much to my shock I have lost 11 lbs in the last week. Holy toot! I know this is mostly the shedding of water bloat that happens right as you start any "diet" and i know the drastic cut back in my food intake also has a lot to do with it, BUT it's a huge loss and a fantastic accomplishment so I'll just be proud of myself!!!!

Post Op day 5

Going well, moving better each day.
My back is quite sore, i think it's from sleeping in the recliner, think i might try upstairs in bed again tonight.
I was able to get in a bit more "food" today, still not much. I ate & drank -
5 oz yogurt
6 oz protein shake (i'm supposed to try to get 2-3 of these in)
1/2 of a SF popsicle
SF Pudding cup w/ 1/4 scoop protein powder
1 cup egg drop soup
sips of water all day probably 20-25 oz.
(SF stands for sugar free)

So nowhere near that amount of protein they want me to get in, nor the amount of liquid. But i'm working at it and that's the good thing, I certainly got more in today than yesterday.

I am noticing that I really am not ever "hungry". My head is currently playing games with me and making me think/lust for foods I can't have right now, but i'm not even really hungry for those, just obsessed with thinking about them. It's a head game, i know that. The egg drop soup was yummy and i really enjoyed that.

It's amazing how much my taste has changed. Toothpaste tastes HORRIBLE! Sweet things taste 100% sweeter i swear, and i'm eating the sugar free variety of things. Hope when i get back to yummy proteins like fish, seafood, chicken and such they don't taste funny too.

A couple people have asked me if i've lost weight yet. I havn't really bothered to check, immediately post op you have so much swelling and such from the actual surgery that you often don't lose a lot. My plan is to wait to officially weigh the first time this weekend. My ticker reflects the weigh in the morning of surgery :-)

day 4 post op

First off it is nice to be home. yes i am of course very uncomfortable, but i'm "uncomfortable" in my own home which makes it a lot nicer. the ride home was tough, every bump hurt, but luckily it was mostly main roads and not a ton of bumps. Slept pretty well last night. Overall i feel weak, tired and just "foggy" but i know that the anesthesia effects can last a while and also that the pain meds can do that too.

I'm eating small amount of yogurt, pudding and cream soup. I eat popsicles and drink lots of water, in tiny sips. I also have tried some protein shakes, so far just a bit of that goes down at a time.

Overall feeling pretty darn good considering everything that my body has endured.

3 days post op

i had a rough night last night. very gassy adn bloated. threw up some pain meds and couldn't get comfortable at all. i have never wanted to fart so badly in all my life, hoping it happens sooner rather than later. hoping to head home today, i will be more comfortable i think and be able to rest better.

2 days post op

obviously i have pain....i'm moving slow....but so far so good. tried a little clear liquids last night, seemed to do okay with them. i seem to get gassy from everything even water and burping hurts but it will pass the more i can walk around. i think they take my pain pump off today and i try pain meds by mouth, hoping that goes well.

Weight Loss Ticker...

I am going to be brave and bold and just put it right there at the top of the blog. My high weight is 379, today i weight 376, so from my high weight i've lost a grand total of 3 lbs, whoopty doo. That is precisely why i am having weight loss surgery, i cannot do this on my own, i have tried, and tried and tried again. So here we go, here's to hoping it moves down the line a lot in the next few months. I put my "goal" in as 199, the doctor has not set any definate goal for me, but 199 sounds like a nice number for now. "Normal" as far as BMI is concerned would actually be like 165, i just don't forsee me ever being there. So for now it will stay 199.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

The day is slowly ticking by.
I am doing okay on the clear liquids, of course your head plays a lot of games with you, but i'll be okay, i can do it, it will be worth it.

Started the meds shuffle. I take something pretty much all day long every couple of hours.

I am a bit more nervous about tomorrow but it's not really bad, just totally normal stuff. I'm sure that the next few days will be hard. I will be taking a laptop to the hospital with me and I hope to update my blog when i can and am up to it.

Thanks to all who have offered help and been so supportive of this life changing decision. I thank God every day for such a supportive group of family & friends.
